Frequently asked questions

Does a wife lose her Haq Mehr if she seeks khula?

Not automatically. In July 2026 the Lahore High Court held that dower cannot be forfeited only because the wife sought khula. The outcome depends on the facts and the court’s order.

Does a mother lose custody if she remarries?

Remarriage is not by itself the only ground to deny custody. The welfare of the child is the paramount consideration.
